Presidents end of year statement

Wow, I can't believe it's the end of the year already, it doesn't seem long since I was welcoming everyone to the society.
We've achieved a lot, I have listed all the achievements that I can think of below. As I have said before the club is nothing without its members and this year we have had more members than ever before. This success however comes with a price and there has been a lot of very hard work gone into the society to run it this year. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my two Vice Presidents Matt and Jon, our Chairman Al, our drivers Phil and Rob, Maddy and everyone else who has help out during the year. The work of most of these people has been especially shown on the Snowdonia trip when I was rushed into hospital for Emergency surgery just two days before the trip was due to leave. (For anyone who's interested I am due to go in soon for the first of two operations to get this problem sorted.) The Students Union and Sport Centre have also provided support and facilities for the society, and have played their part in making the society a success.
I know I've had a great year and would just like to share a few of my favourite memories, enjoying a drink in the Aidensfield Arms in the North Yorkshire Moors,

the view and having a snowball fight on the Old Man of Coniston in the Lake District

and watching the sunset in the Lake District

The people are one of the best things on the trips

And the Places

As for the future, well those of you who have already seen the election results will see that I'm not on there. Both weeks the results for the president vote were tied, so I have stood down from standing for the position. I have been honoured with the position of Chairman though, so I will be acting as an overseer of the society, though not getting involved in the day to day running of it. For me, this is a hard step to stand back from an organising position, but it will give me a chance to enjoy the society without the stress and worry that goes with the organising. I started working for the Fellwalking club (as it was then) just after I started university in September 2003 and gradually got more and more involved. I became Vice President in September 2004 and President in September 2005. I have helped with the re-branding of the club to become the Mountaineering Club and aesigned the logo that is currently in use. I was the member who set the Club up as a Society in May 2005 (though I got Dan to do the presentation at the meeting). I have seen the members grow substantially in my time and though its not all because of me, I like to think that I have played my part in this success. With all this in mind, it will be nice to see the society from the other side of the coin, for pretty much the first time, and seeing some of the changes that I have put into place over the years in action.
